Ms. Rita Bajura joined the Morgantown Energy Technology Center (METC) in 1980 as a mechanical engineer. Since then, she has had a meteoric rise in her career. Between 1986 and 1994, Ms. Bajura headed successively the System Analysis, Coal Project Management, and Product Management divisions. She was named the Deputy Director of METC in 1994. Ms. Bajura became the inaugural Director of the Federal Energy Technology Center (FETC), which was formed by the merger of the Morgantown and Pittsburgh Centers.

In December 1999, FETC was renamed the National Energy Technology Laboratory, the Department’s 15th National Laboratory. As the Laboratory Director, Ms. Bajura oversees the implementation of a broad range of scientific and technology programs in fossil energy and environmental technologies.
