Robert Pokorski received his BSME degree from WVU in 1982. He then joined the A. Stucki Company, a manufacturer of rail car components. He served at Stucki in a variety of positions including plant superintendent.

In 1994, Pokorski joined the TTX Company as a senior engineer for field services. He was promoted in 1997 to senior manager of strategic maintenance. Two years later, he was again promoted to director of engineering. In 2000, Pokorski was named assistant vice president for mechanical services by TTX. Since 2000, he has served the company as vice president of equipment. As such, he is responsible for all matters pertaining to the design, construction, maintenance, modification, operation and performance of the TTX Company fleet of nearly 150,000 railcars. Additional responsibilities include all research and test activities pertaining to rai cars and components for the fleet. Pokorski also manages the planning and overall operation of three heavy maintenance facilities with 750 employees and 35 smaller field maintenance operations with an additional 430 employees.

Pokorski has been on the Advisory Committee for the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at WVU since 1988. He is a member of the board of directors of the Mechanical Association of Railcar Technical Services and was president in 2003-2004. He is also on the board of directors of the Railway Supply Institute and a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers.
