Dr. William L. Fourney joined the faculty at the University of Maryland in 1966 teaching courses in solid mechanics and mechanical engineering. He has worked with several companies and government agencies. From 1982 to 1992 he served as Chairman of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Maryland, and then returned to full time teaching and research. He served as Chairman of the Aerospace Engineering Department from 1994- 2006. He is a Fellow of the Society of Engineering Mechanics, and a Fellow of ASME, a member of the American Society for Testing Materials, and served as President of the Society of Experimental Mechanics. He has authored many technical publications reporting his research activities. He and a brother, Mike, also a WVU BSAE graduate, initiated the Seltzer/Ulrich endowment fund which provides scholarships to WVU students of Aerospace Engineering at WVU.
